This trip from La Paz to Monterey in 1998 had one of the bravest crews on board ever! (or maybe just innocent to what they were getting themselves into ).

The crew consisted of friends from Monterey who had only done day sailing and they all wanted to experience open water sailing.....Ha Ha!  Little did they know what it was like to beat up the coast of Mexico and California!

They were all real troopers, and stood their watches and worked above and beyond the call of duty. Our crew was Norm Cotton, Christopher Lange, Loreen Orzake, Brian and myself.

We had typical weather for the trip. I remember one day we had only made 4 miles and I looked and Brian and said lets go anchor somewhere and rest.  Another time we were beating into the wind and I was trying to cook as I was the only one who could do cooking under sail and not get horrible sick.  I remember being thrown out of the head on my way to the galley and thinking to myself "what are we doing....this is not fun any longer"  Like all moments like this,  they to pass and the good times remain to cherish.

All in all the trip was fun and a good learning experience for our novice ocean sailors.  Norm is an excellent mechanic and tractor driver and I still see him around today.  I asked Norm recently what he remembers about the trip and he said he remembers catching a fish that was so ugly none of us wanted to attempt to eat it!  A Big Thank You to this great crew!  I hope Scaldis left you with fond memories.
